Ethernet CAT5e Network Patch Cables

CAT 5e ethernet patch cables are your standard "straight through" patch cable. They are used with patch panels, switches, hubs, modems, game consoles, and anywhere a standard ethernet network connection needs to be made. They do support Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-TX) although just barely; CAT 6 gives you a greater margin of safety in such applications.

Ethernet CAT5e Crossover Network Patch Cables

Crossover patch cables are used for connecting two computers in a network directly, without the use of a switch or hub. Crossover cables are not used in patch bays / panels or for connecting to modems. They are wired differently when you compare one end to the other, unlike "straight through" patch cables which are wired identically at each end.

Ethernet CAT6 Network Patch Cables

CAT 6 (Class E) ethernet patch cables can be used anywhere a CAT 5e patch cable can. They are constructed slightly different to offer greater noise and crosstalk rejection and are tested to a higher bandwidth performance rating. This allows them to be used for applications needing greater ability to transfer data at high speeds (i.e. streaming video, heavy networking, etc...) and they allow for a safety margin of "future-proofing".

Fiber Optic Network Patch Cables

Fiber Optic (FDDI) patch cables use light impulses instead of electricity to transmit digital data. This technology allows for greater speeds than ethernet category cabling. It also transmits signals over greater distances than ethernet. If you need to exceed 100 meters (328 ft.) Fiber Optic technology is a very valid choice. Patch cables are used for connectivity of fiber optic switches, hubs, and patch panels.

Shielded Ethernet Network Patch Cables; CAT5e (STP)

Shielded Ethernet CAT5e Patch Cables are used in many environments where extra protection from outside electrical interference is desired. This can be heavy machinery, transformers, generators or other equipment that has a high degree of EMI, Electro-magnetic interference. Shielded patch cables need to be used in conjunction with shielded patch panels, couplers, hubs and switches to be effective.

Network Shielded Ethernet Patch Cables; CAT6 (PiMF / SSTP)

PiMF (pair in metal foil) or SSTP (Separately shielded twisted pair) have separately shielded twisted pairs with an overall braided shielding around all 4 pairs. This screens out EMI and RF interference caused by heavy machinery, transformers, generators or other equipment that has a high degree of EMI, (Electro-magnetic interference).

Telephone Network Cords

Good old standard phone cords are available with 4 conductors for 2 lines or 6 conductors for 3 lines. Both standard "straight-through" and "reverse" will work with any standard phone system. Reverse style telephone cords are used in some large specialty phone systems. Either style will work at home, and in almost any other application that calls for a telephone patch cord.
